The attic is where a Florida home wins or loses the energy fight. It's the single highest-return insulation investment in this climate, period.
Nothing else you can do to a Florida house returns as much comfort and utility savings per dollar as bringing the attic up to standard. It's the largest surface, the biggest temperature differential, and the easiest access. If someone is trying to sell you windows before your attic is at R-38, they're selling you the wrong thing.
Two fundamentally different strategies. Insulating the attic floor keeps the attic hot and vented and outside the envelope — cheaper, code-simple, and fine when your ducts aren't up there. Insulating the roof deck brings the attic inside the envelope — more expensive, but it fixes duct losses, humidity, and storage usability all at once.
The deciding question is almost always: where is your air handler and ductwork? If it's in the attic, deck insulation is usually worth the premium.
In a vented attic, blocked soffit vents are a very common and very damaging mistake. Insulation blown up against the eaves cuts off intake air, the attic can't purge heat and moisture, and you get elevated temperatures plus sheathing moisture problems.
We install proper baffles at every bay. In a sealed/unvented spray foam attic, ventilation is intentionally eliminated and the vents get closed — but that's a deliberate system design, not an accident.
We measure existing depth in multiple locations, identify the material, check for moisture staining on the sheathing, look for rodent evidence, locate and photograph air leakage points, confirm bath fan terminations, check duct condition and insulation, verify soffit vent clearance, and note anything structural or electrical that's a concern. Then you get photos and a written scope. It takes about 45 minutes and it costs nothing.

Attic Insulation pricing varies with square footage, access, existing conditions, and whether removal is required first. Most Florida projects fall in the $1.50–$5.00 per square foot installed range. Standard Insulation provides free written, itemized estimates statewide — call (561) 975-6204.
R-30 to R-49 recommended for Florida attics. In Florida's Climate Zone 1 attic assemblies must reach R-30, and in Climate Zone 2 R-38, with R-49 a common practical target, and we'll size the assembly to hit your code requirement or your performance goal.
