Florida crawl spaces run humid year-round. Encapsulating and insulating them protects floor systems from rot and keeps humid air out of the living space.
Ground moisture evaporating into an open crawl space, combined with our outdoor dew points, keeps the space at high relative humidity almost year-round. That humid air goes up through the floor into the house via the stack effect, bringing moisture, odor, and sometimes mold spores with it. The floor system rots slowly the whole time.
Vented crawl spaces in hot-humid climates generally do not work — venting humid summer air into a cool crawl space produces condensation, which is the opposite of the intent. Encapsulation means a heavy reinforced vapor barrier across the ground and up the walls, sealed at seams and terminations, vents closed, perimeter walls insulated, and a dehumidifier or a small conditioned air supply added.
Homes on pilings along the coast have an open, fully exposed floor system taking direct sun, salt air, and wind-driven rain from below. Closed-cell spray foam applied to the underside of the floor system handles insulation, air sealing, and moisture resistance in one application and holds up to the environment far better than batt in netting.
In flood zones, materials below the base flood elevation have to be flood-damage-resistant. Closed-cell spray foam qualifies under FEMA guidance where fiberglass batt does not. It's a code and insurance issue, not just a durability preference, and it's worth getting right the first time.

Crawl Space Insulation pricing varies with square footage, access, existing conditions, and whether removal is required first. Most Florida projects fall in the $1.50–$5.00 per square foot installed range. Standard Insulation provides free written, itemized estimates statewide — call (561) 975-6204.
R-13 to R-19 typical. In Florida's Climate Zone 1 attic assemblies must reach R-30, and in Climate Zone 2 R-38, with R-49 a common practical target, and we'll size the assembly to hit your code requirement or your performance goal.
