Spray Foam Insulation
Open-cell and closed-cell polyurethane foam that air-seals and insulates in one application.
Learn about Spray Foam InsulationLoose-fill fiberglass or cellulose blown to a consistent depth across attic floors.
Blown-in is the fastest, most cost-effective way to bring a Florida attic up to the R-30 to R-38 range the Florida Building Code Energy Conservation chapter calls for in Climate Zones 1 and 2.
Both work. Blown fiberglass doesn't absorb moisture, doesn't settle much, and doesn't feed mold — meaningful advantages in a climate where your attic will eventually see water from a leak or a storm. Cellulose has slightly better R-per-inch, fills irregular cavities more completely, and dampens sound better, but it holds water when it gets wet and it settles over time.
For most Florida attics we lean fiberglass. For dense-pack wall retrofits and sound applications, cellulose often makes more sense.
Depth is everything, and depth is where corners get cut. Blown fiberglass at roughly R-2.5 per inch needs about 15 inches of settled depth to hit R-38; cellulose needs about 11 inches. A crew in a hurry blows 9 inches, calls it R-38, and nobody ever checks.
We install depth markers throughout the attic per the manufacturer's coverage chart, photograph them, and leave the bag count and coverage documentation with you. You should be able to walk up there a year later and verify what you paid for.
Before a single bag goes in the hopper: baffles at every soffit vent so we don't block ventilation, air sealing at the ceiling plane, dams around the attic hatch and any recessed lights that require clearance, bath fans verified to terminate outside, and any knob-and-tube or compromised wiring flagged.
Blowing insulation over an unprepared attic is fast, cheap, and mostly a waste of the homeowner's money.
If the existing insulation is dry, uncontaminated, and evenly distributed, adding on top of it is perfectly good practice and saves you the removal cost. If it's wet, matted, rodent-soiled, or full of construction debris, adding on top just buries the problem where you'll never see it. We'll tell you which situation you're in and show you photos.

Blown-In Insulation pricing varies with square footage, access, existing conditions, and whether removal is required first. Most Florida projects fall in the $1.50–$5.00 per square foot installed range. Standard Insulation provides free written, itemized estimates statewide — call (561) 975-6204.
R-2.2 to R-3.8 per inch depending on material and settled density. In Florida's Climate Zone 1 attic assemblies must reach R-30, and in Climate Zone 2 R-38, with R-49 a common practical target, and we'll size the assembly to hit your code requirement or your performance goal.
